Abstract

The city of Guarulhos inserted in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo has its urban development often in a disorderly manner, without any planning with the expense of increasing levels of environmental degradation. The units of study chosen in this project are the Watershed of "Ribeirão Guaraçau" and "Ribeirão das Lavras", both on the north face of the city, within the "Baquirivu Guaçu" watershed. This is a region that has unplanned urbanization and advancing to the rural area, which causes irregular occupations and lack of measures related to sanitary control and the lack of collection system and wastewater treatment. Thus, the population is exposed to various types of contaminants, especially in remote areas of the urban centers, which are not without importance for the city, especially in the historical and cultural aspects. The environmental quality in the basin will be evaluated through physical-chemical and microbiological analysis of the water such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, Escherichia coli and chlorophyll a. With this work is expected to contribute to the research being undertaken by the University Guarulhos specifically at the Master Course in Geoenvironmental Analysis on the "Baquirivu Guaçu" watershed.
