The quality of water in river channels is directly influenced by use and land cover in a watershed. The limnological monitoring is a widely used tool to track the evolution of the conditions of water quality of these channels over time and space. Thus, the present research proposes to conduct monitoring in Ribeirão Montalvão, located in the city of Alfredo Marcondes - SP, and analyze the influence of the use and land cover of the watershed in the water quality. To achieve this objective will be produced a map of the use and land cover through orthophotos of Emplasa (2011), by using the ArcGIS 10.2 software. There will also be the limnological monitoring into seven sections, four in the main channel of the river, one on tributary 1, one on tributary 2, and one in the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of Alfredo Marcondes. The field variables will be temperature (T), electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity (Turb), pH, ammonia-N (NH4-N) and dissolved oxygen (DO) being sampled by a parametric model multisonda brand Hanna HI 9829. It will also sampled an outflow according to Palhares et al. (2007). In laboratory, dissolved phosphorus, soluble reactive phosphorus and total phosphorus will be determined according Mackereth et al. (1978) and chemical oxygen demand (COD), according to APHA (1998).
