Resources, occupational and personal demands and engagement: Impacts to workers and work.

Abstract

An integrated model that explains relationships between personal resources, resources, demands and results of work, health phenomena at work and organizational outcomes is important to clarify the interdependence relations between these variables. Although such a model exists in the literature, it has never been tested with the variables included in this study. Therefore, this study goal is to verify if the work resources and the personal resources moderated by the perception of conflicts predict engagement and if this relation explains the health self-reporting and the workers turnover intention. In the model, beliefs in their own competence (self-efficacy) and the ability to face adversity with no disruption (resilience) are included as personal resources; supervisors basis of power are included as labor resources, and conflicts perception are included as work demands. Three hundred (or more) workers will participate of this study -such workers will be selected for convenience, are aged over eighteen, had finished high school and work in teams or groups-. Data collection will be done through electronic questionnaire that contains valid scales to assess the constructs, as well as questions for respondents' characterization. Data analysis will be done electronically, by applying statistics tests to examine the relation between the investigated variables. Master's dissertations, Doctoral thesis and graduation conclusion paper associated with the project theme will be developed. (AU)
