Abstract

Ataxia telangiectasia (AT), Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) and X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) are primary immunodeficiency (PID) which can occur with endocrine changes, oxidative stress and inflammation. With advances in clinical care protocols, there was a positive impact on patient survival, thus resulting in concern about the risk for developing other chronic diseases, such as atherosclerosis. Studies suggest that selenium is a trace element related to protection against the damage caused by oxidative stress, especially in immune cells; postulated is therefore that adequate consumption reduces the risk of some chronic diseases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the nutritional status of selenium in patients with ataxia telangiectasia, common variable immunodeficiency and X-linked agammaglobulinemia will be assessed through cross-controlled study, patients diagnosed with AT (n = 13) CVID (n = 33) and XLA (n = 6), of both genders, aged between 3 and 60 years accompanied the Allergy, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, Department of Pediatrics of UNIFESP / EPM. The following evaluations will be conducted: socioeconomic, anthropometric, clinical, food consumption, serum selenium, glutathione peroxidase, biomarkers of inflammation (hsCRP and adiponectin) and lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde) and lipid metabolism biomarkers related to risk of atherosclerosis (lipid profile, apolipoproteins A-1 and B, oxLDL, myeloperoxidase and paraoxonase).
