Abstract

The objective of this project is to develop new piezoelectric devices for the contactless manipulation of particles in air and in liquid media. This objective will be pursued through a collaboration between researchers from the Institute of Physics/University of São Paulo, the Laboratory of Ultrasonics at the Polytechnic School/University of São Paulo and the visiting researcher Anne Bernassau, from the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences of Herriot-Watt University in the UK. At the end of the project, it is expected to have a prototype of a piezoelectric' device for particle manipulation in liquid media, a Langevin type transducer for operation in air and a better understand .of particle manipulation in liquid media. A long-term collaboration between Brazilian researchers and the Bernassau group is also expected. (AU)
