Development of impurity transport models to implement them in astra code for TCABR

Abstract

One of the fundamental problems affecting the performance of magnetic confinement of thermonuclear plasmas is the anomalous transport of energy and particles. The energy loss in confined plasmas in tokamaks is at least one order of magnitude above those laid down collisional transport theory. Part of this problem is energy radiation of accumulated impurities in the plasma center causing plasma cooling by radiation that could stimulate a plasma disruption, besides the loss of energy. The main objective of this research project is to develop models and investigate the transport of impurities for improvement of particles and energy confinement in tokamaks. It is planned integration a specific code STRAHL (R.Dux IPP Max-Planck, Germany, 10/27/2004) of impurity transport and Alfvén wave heating code (ALTOK) with the ASTRA code that allows to investigate the transport of impurities for improvement of particles and energy confinement in tokamaks, seeking identity of the most relevant physical mechanisms of transport using ASTRA code computing and comparing the results with the data of experiments conducted in TCABR tokamak and in other machines. More training and learning researchers and graduate students to work with the ASTRA transport code, it is supposed. (AU)
