Feasibility research: software development to track the abuse and dependency of alcohol in family's Health Strategy

Abstract

The abuse of alcohol ingestion and its dependence are serious public health problems that require the development of strategies in primary health care to hinder the consequences created by them. Researchers have identified the use of standardized tracking instruments for the early detection and rapid response as a structured, simple and effective manner to approach this problem. However, despite the efficiency, adequacy and relatively easy implementation of the tracking routines, there are several challenges to turn it in a practice routine at this level of attention. It is noticeable that national and global scale's software development that uses the mentioned instruments is far away to assist in the process of caring, monitoring and routing, based on the logic of the service that it is inserted, going beyond its function of tracking such cases. Nowadays, the data collection techniques are still based on paper and pencil (or PAPI - paper and pencil interview). Because of that, the project objective is to check the feasibility of developing a software to use standardized instruments, which will be available on mobile phones in order to improve the quality of the service provided by the Family's Health Strategy teams, contributing to the management of these cases using a technology created and adapted to the reality and routine of the teams. To improve the efficiency of the project, it will be used the Scrum agile development model, which will ensure a better use of the resources for the project. The main sources of research will be specialized websites, books, academic materials and knowledge of professionals who can help to solve the problem. The project activities are: selection of tracking instruments; implementation and evaluation of the applicability of selected tests; gather requirements from researchers' field work; description of the software being developed; technical feasibility analysis. At the end of PHASE I of the project, it is expected to demonstrate the technological feasibility of a product that enables: to collect, save and analyze automatically the obtained scores of standardized instruments; to develop an integrated system to track and monitor, allowing greater integration between community health workers, doctors, prevention programs and health promotion programs, providing better monitoring of case evolutions and direction of care; to capture data and obtain results in real time to optimize the care process. The impact of the implementation of this system will have resonance in the management, monitoring and mental health in primary care, promoting: qualification and continuity of care and management; creating a system that responds to the specific objectives of each service, but that is also linked with other systems; implementing a cost-effective model of health, using resources in a strategic and rational way, covering individual and collective demands. Thus, we can move to the next step, PHASE II of the project, where the focus will be on the development and improvement of the designed software. (AU)
