Abstract

One of the impacts of water conservation in drainage building systems is the reduction of flow rates, which if not evaluated can decrease the performance related to the self-cleaning requirement of drains and main drains of the system. In this sense, the aims of this research project are: to investigate, in the laboratory, the flow rates and depths of flow in horizontal pipes of waste water drainage systems in residential buildings, in order to reduce the diameters of 100 mm to 75 mm, and collect data to validate a numerical approach based on Moving Particle Semi-Implicit - MPS, which is being developed by the same team. In order to achieve the objectives, tests will be carried out in the hydraulic tower using a configuration of a typical residential bathroom, located on the second floor. The diameters and slopes of the drains and main drains will be varied. The expected results are the possibility of reducing the diameters from 100 mm to 75 mm, for the stacks, WC drains, main drains of drainage systems of buildings up to two stories as well as validation of simulation model of drainage system using MPS method. This research will bring the following benefits to society: more flexibility for designers, more sustainable systems with a view to the possibility of reducing the diameter from 100 mm to 75 mm for bathrooms of two-storey buildings.
