Abstract

The ceramic tiles industry in the state of São Paulo is growing rapidly since the early 90, which consolidated the Polo Ceramic Santa Gertrudes as the second largest in the world with a production of 575.58 million m2 in 2014, accounting for 75% of national production of ceramic tiles. The great success to this growth comes from material originating from Corumbatai Formation material that has excellent quality, large volumes and good location. The research being developed aims to study the rocks of the Estrada Nova Formation (Teresina and Serra Alta) in the São Paulo state whit the aim of new sources of raw materials for the ceramic industry by strengthening the scientific and technological knowledge.
