Abstract

This project aims to analyze the mathematics performance of students in the 3rd year of high school in the state public school system in the state of São Paulo that participated of the latest editions of the Sistema de Avaliação de Rendimento Escolar do Estado de São Paulo - SARESP. To achieve this goal, will be considered the notes obtained in mathematics tests at SARESP between the years 2008 and 2014, provided by the state Department of Education of São Paulo - ESS / SP. The analysis of these notes will occur under two forms, one for the state as a whole and another by macro regions of the São Paulo state. As a secondary objective, we have the organization of the large number of information provided by SEE. In order to perform the analyzes, firstly is necessary to identify schools characteristics for which we have information such as type of education offered, the class period, location between other. After data organization, efforts will be focused on the main objective of this proposed project, described above. Understanding the factors that influence student achievement, directly influencing the classification level is important to give support the SEE in definitions geared to educational policies. Knowledge of regional characteristics where the school whose performance of the student was lower than the others and that can interfere on the student's score takes significant character in the search for explanations and ways to overcome the current situation of the Brazilian Basic Education.
