Abstract

This research project aims to develop new synthetic methods to obtain derivatives of various types of gamma-butyrolactone by multicomponent processes. These compounds have great structural diversity and can provide a library of compounds to aid chemo-medicinal studies. First, we intend to test new multicomponent synthetic approaches whose studies have been initiated in our research group. Then, we intend to improve these procedures by replacing the catalytic systems and the solvents and/or by using heating by microwave irradiation and ultrasound. In this way, we expect to synthesize several compounds, such as biologically active derivatives of natural products, effectively and obtain new compounds of pharmacological interest. Purification of the synthesized products and their adequate structural elucidation by various spectroscopic methods will be necessary. Subsequently, we will conduct various kinds of biological assays using the obtained compounds. This last part of the project will have the collaboration of researchers from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto/USP, UNESP, University of Franca, and Federal University of ABC, with which we maintain collaborative projects.
