Integrated radiometric study in spas from São Paulo and Minas Gerais States

Abstract

This research intends to evaluate the radiological quality of groundwaters from 14 spas situated at southeast Brazil (São Paulo and Minas Gerais States), where all acquired information from previous studies focusing the radionuclides already analyzed (220Rn, 222Rn, 226Ra, 228Ra, 238U e 234U) will be integrated with those to be obtained from 210Pb and 210Po analysis as intended in this study. Additionally, the gross alpha and beta activities will be also evaluated, which are well-known parameters inserted in the guidelines established by the following legislation: WHO (2001) and Rule No. 2914 of the Brazilian Health Ministry. Several steps will be involved on the development of this project, among them: groundwater sampling; characterization of dissolved 210Pb and 210Po in the samples; characterization of the gross alpha and beta activities; statistical treatment of the data obtained; correlation of the data obtained here with other available radiometric and hydrochemical data in order to obtain a better understanding of each hydrogeochemical context; use of the data obtained on the evaluation of the grroundwaters quality in terms of radiological parameters.
