Abstract

This workshop aims to revisit the conclusions of the SCOPE Bioenergy & Sustainability report (http://bioenfapesp.org/scopebioenergy), now focusing the discussions on Latin America and Africa. The workshop schedule follows a very specific dynamic, which was designed by SCOPE (the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment), called "Rapid Assessment Process" (RAP). In a RAP workshop, the experts are split in groups, and the discussion carried out throughout the whole event will be summarized in a policy brief with science-based recommendations for key stakeholders (governments, policy makers, etc). As the discussion will revolve around topics that are of great interest to policy-making (namely: energy security, food security, environmental and climate security, sustainable development and innovation), the coordinators of BIOEN, BIOTA and Climate Change Programs along with members of the organizing committee have selected experts on those four areas coming from 16 countries, and whose works represent the big picture of bioenergy & sustainability in the contexts of Latin America and Africa, as well as guests from North America and Europe, which represent the biggest producers and large markets for bioenergy products.
