Abstract

The main objective of this proposal is the production of knowledge about the international situ-ation of refugees in the city of São Paulo. This objective will be pursued in two main ways: the first is the production of ethnographies from different refugee communities (Congolese, Syrians and Colombians) and the second relates to the impact of refugee in the thinking about difference in media, newspapers, official speeches etc. The focus is both in the production of a vision from the experiences of refugees in São Paulo, and a vision of what is said about these new contingents in various media. Between these two strategies of work there is the fundamental question of the refuge regulatory framework and the inevi-table clashes between refugees and the bureaucracy surrounding them. This theme will be the subject of our research only to the extent that is relevant to the refugees, indicating clearly that this is not a pro-posal for an ethnography of institutions, but of refugees themselves. The objective is to understand their ways of seeing the world, their differences and how the entire institutional structure of political actors affects this 'native' equation. (AU)
