Abstract

Acceptance and implementation of methodologies based immunoassay (ELISA) for the detection of ractopamine residues depend on the clear demonstration of their quality and validation. The standardization of this test is very laborious, because in order to have success in this work, should take into account three basic stages: the synthesis of hapten, the preparation of immunogens and immunization on laboratory animals. These factors become the key to success when it seeks the production and standardization of polyclonal / monoclonal antibodies. When making comparisons between the results obtained with those derived from traditional methods (HPLC, LS-MS, HPLC, etc.) they must be correlated in order to assure their reproducibility and efficiency. Another important point is that after a standardized ELISA should be selective for ractopamine, to avoid false positives; allow the handling of large numbers of samples in a short time, it can be used as a quick inspection tool and insurance (screening) and a very important point, not be very costly not prevent for the analyzes carried out by laboratories accredited by government. Commercial kits are available for research of this drug in animal products used in Brazil generally are all imported, resulting in a high cost to the laboratories accredited by the government and consequently to farmers. We must not forget also that often export processes these kits take months, hurting the export of products of animal origin and what is worse, often these kits come with the date-expired due to customs procedures. Thus, the project has great relevance yes biotechnology, economic and social to Brazil, as both producers and the government itself can look forward to an innovative technology in the field, allowing a large financial savings for meat exporters and to the surveillance.
