Abstract

The objective of this research project is to promote an exchange program between UoM and UFABC. The proposed joint project is set to enhance educational/research scientific excellence in the two universities. This will ultimately help in securing large grants from other organizations for continuing our collaborative research activities for the long-term. The achievement of this goal requires an interdisciplinary approach based on complementary expertise of the two participants in peptide self-assembly and polymeric hydrogels. The outcome of this collaborative project will yield high quality publications and breakthrough for rapid diagnostic of leishmaniosis and other diseases endemic in tropical countries. The objective of this research/exchange project is to fabricate a new biosensor based on peptidepolymer hydrogels for the detection of leishmaniosis and other diseases endemic in tropical countries. The achievement of this goal requires an interdisciplinary approach based on complementary expertise of the two participants. Prof. Alves is an expert in peptide synthesis and self-assembly into nanostructures whereas Dr. Cavalieri has consolidated skins on the engineering and characterization of polymer based hydrogels for biomedical applications. The proposed joint research project aligns well with the ongoing research of the participants and meantime increases skills and knowledge of both applicants. (AU)
