Abstract

The thoracoabdominal aneurysm represents 10-15% of all aortic aneurysms. Despite their low prevalence compared to abdominal aortic aneurysms, the thoracoabdominal aneurysms require complex and high morbidity and mortality treatment. The treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysm presents a significant number of complications and postoperative mortality varies from 4 to 21% depending on the population studied and the experience of the surgical staff. The endovascular treatment requires stent with fenestrations or branches for revascularization of the visceral vessels of the aorta and there is a significant risk of inadequate sealing between the stents and aortic stent graft (endoleak). Recently, a new stent design was created. It has three-dimensional geometrical configuration of braided layers with a blood flow modulation function. This is known as the multilayer stent. The objective of this study is to analyze, through an animal model, the hemodynamic effects of the multilayer stent in thoracoabdominal aneurysms by arteriography image analysis, duplex scan, contrasted ultrasound and intravascular ultrasound. There will be used 20 large white pigs, randomized into two groups: stent x control. All animals should be subjected to create a transrenal aneurysm with peritoneum patch. In the stent group, after making the aneurysm, a multilayer stent will be delivered into the aorta. Four weeks later, all animals shall undergo ultrasound and hemodynamic study. (AU)
