Abstract

The proposed project aims to create a consortium to extend and strengthen the collaborative research between two well-established independently driven research groups from University of Sao Paulo and University of Glasgow. Through visits and exchanges of faculty staff, the consortium will promote the implementation of a critical mass joining resources and skills to conduct research projects in collaboration and planning new collaborative grant applications. Particularly, the consortium will provide expert training in complementary experimental approaches basic and clinical) improving the current project understanding: i) the pathophysiological role of O-GIcNacylation in bone loss in diabetic patients with periodontitis; ii) examine a possible role for O-glycNacylation in determining the host response to microbial challenge, in the context of the biofilm infection of periodontitis. The project also aims to organize seminars, workshops and mentoring program to promote knowledge transfer, engage clinical undergraduate student offering relevant training in research from the partners. Lastly, the project intend to engage researcher from both countries in programs such as "Meet the experts" to involve the public in the research activities. (AU)
