Abstract

This project has as main objective to obtain dynamic images of changes in intracellular pH (pHi) in microglia cells. Unlike other pHi measurement methods, the use of fluorescence microscopy will provide us with simultaneously spatial and temporal resolution of the events involved in maintaining the microglial pHi. Three majors will be studied: 1) the relationship between the composition of the plasma membrane and regulation of pHi; 2) the relationship between metabolic condition of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and regulation of pHi; and 3) the molecular mechanism for the intracellular trafficking of proteins involved in the regulation of the pHi of these cells.
