Abstract

This project is being submitted for assessment of PAPPE/PIPE Phase 3 Program, after completion of Phase 2 of the Program. The aim of the project is the development of CoCr (cobalt-chrome) easy machining blanks for the production of dental frameworks via CAD-CAM systems. Studies to date have involved research by different powder dental alloy, with the selection of a granulated powder. The tests included the study of pressing and sintering parameters. In addition to chemical analysis, the hardness profile, porosity, optical micrograph and evaluation of adaptation of frameworks (prostheses) machined and sintered on the die (the tooth replica that receives the prosthesis). The results were promising and showed that the final product has properties similar to those found in the literature for conventional CoCr alloy castings (difficult to machine) and the CoCr soft blanks of German origin recently launched in the market. However, the production and marketing of the product have some challenges that must be overcome. First, it is necessary to fit the dimensions of the discs. The optimum diameter for use in most milling machines is 9.8 cm. The samples produced to date have a 5 cm diameter. Thus, the study of the pressing parameters for product production in the final dimensions is critical. Also the assembly of the production line is needed, respecting all legal aspects for obtaining the product registration with ANVISA. Finally, the development of marketing strategies will enable the finalization of the product and its commercialization. The CoCr disks for easy machining represent a novel technology for Brazil, with great potential in domestic and foreign markets. Its production is to optimize the process of manufacture of dental prostheses, with significant cost savings and increased productivity. (AU)
