Abstract

We, Profs. Dominik Zumbuhl and Carlos Egues, plan to carry out mutual visits between our groups (Basel and São Carlos), aiming at strengthening our research collaboration by means of face-to-face scientific discussions of new theory-experimental projects following up on the ongoing ones so as to consolidate our partnership. More specifically, our mutual scientific visits ("Missions") will focus on (i) finishing the manuscript of the current ongoing joing project (concerning unpublished results, e.g., Fig.1 of the SPRINT proposal),(ii) discussing future experiments and additional data having in mind the predictions of the theoretical model used and its limitations, (iii) disseminating our findings among colleagues working in similar areas in São Paulo State via a future focused workshop in São Carlos, (iv) carrying out face-to-face meetings to wrap up and discuss a mid-to-long -term joint research proposal towards the end of this SPRINT start-up/mobility program, so as to concretely solidify our collaboration. This future proposal should more actively involve students and postdocs from both sides and possibly have a broader scope including novel topics of mutual interest such as topological insulators and Majorana s fermions. We should also look into the possibility to make the University of Basel a partner Institution with FAPESP, which would perhaps facilitate the official exchange of graduate students between our groups.
