Abstract
This proposal is within the scope of ASTRID (Accessibility, Social justice and Transport emission Impacts of transit-oriented Development strategies; project number 2015/50128-9). The objectives of ASTRID are to investigate the causal mechanism resulting in disparity and social injustice in job accessibility and air quality in metropolitan areas, taking three cities London (UK), Randstad (Netherlands) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) as test cities. In ASTRID project, the exposure to air pollutants is being evaluated in the three different metropolitan areas; all of them following the same protocol for sampling. The monitoring involves particulate matter =/<2.5 µm (PM2.5), =/<10 µm (PM1 O) and black carbon (BC). The sampling has been performed on car, metro, bus, and train. Moreover, a survey regarding the motivation and social characteristics of the population and perception of the quality of the transport mode is currently being prepared for the three cities within the ASTRID project. The bike users are increasing in most European and Latin American cities such as London and Sao Paulo. We propose within this PEDALS (Particles and Black Carbon Exposure to London and São Paulo Bike-Lane Users) project to expand the scope of our thematic project, ASTRID, to include the exposure of bike users of the dedicated lane to air pollutants in São Paulo. The results, from ASTRID and PEDALS projects will be discussed in the workshops in São Paulo and London in the scope of the present proposal (AU)
