Abstract

The study of the elemental composition of atmospheric air near the surface by analytical methods has increased in recent years, mainly due to increased emissions and the impact of this pollution on the environment and health. Trace elements such as aluminum, lead, mercury, among others, represent an important fraction of air pollution, and their emission sources highly characterized by anthropogenic action. This project aims to evaluate and characterize the particulate matter in the atmosphere and to quantify metals present in different samples, assessing their emission sources and its impact on the environment. It will be evaluated different types of samples including atmospheric particulate matter, raw and treated wastewater, rainwater, groundwater sources and biological samples (plants). The inductively coupled plasma atomic absorption spectroscopy (ICP-OES) will be applied for qualitative and quantitative determination of elements through simple and quick analysis procedures. As the trace elements present in the air and the environment, as well as its emission sources have regional peculiarities, it is evident the need for research in the Bauru region. (AU)
