Abstract

Differential scanning calorimetry is a technique that allows the measurement of the specific heat of a sample subjected to a temperature scan. This technique has been widely used to relate thermal properties of materials with their physical properties. In special, the DSC technique is traditionally used in the topics proposed in the Thematic Project to which this proposal is linked, such as the gel/fluid transition of lipid bilayers, protein denaturation and vitreous transition of polymers. The team has been using the DSC technique and show a solid experience in the analysis and interpretation of results obtained with this technique. The acquisition of this equipment, still no present at the Paulista School of Medicine, completes the essential techniques to allow the study and biophysical characterization of nanostructures systems. Besides that, the DSC equipment will be useful to other groups of Unifesp and external interested in thermodynamic studies of biomolecules in solution. (AU)
