Abstract

Tumor angiogenesis has been the study objective for different types of neoplasias in humans and animals. It is closely related to tumor progression and metastasis. Canine mammary neoplasia (CMN) has a high prevalence especially in places where the elective sterilization of animals is infrequent, as in Brazil. Bitches with mammary neoplasia are experimental models for breast cancer in women and the CMN study is important not only for the specie but also for a better understanding of the neoplasia in different species. Anti-angiogenic therapy has been highlighted in medicine and has been studied in veterinary medicine. In women with breast cancer, researchers have been studying the role and response to anti-angiogenic therapy. In the bitch, this therapy for CMN still shows few results. Aiming to study the role of anti-angiogenic therapy, it is proposed with this research to treat, analyze and establish the profile of the responses obtained from treatment of bitches with mammary tumors. In addition, the objective is to evaluate a possible influence of the therapy on tumor lymphangiogenesis, a response that has never been evaluated in any species, aiming benefits canine and human species.
