Abstract

This proposal seeks support for a visit of Dr. Darlene Crone-Todd to the Laboratory of Human Behavior Studies (LECH) at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), from August 18-28, 2017. UFSCar is the seat of the National Institute of Research and Technology on Behavior, Cognition and Teaching (INCT/ECCE, whose continuity for the next six years has been recently approved by CNPq, and is currently being appreciated by FAPESP). LECH concentrates most of the research of INCT/ECCE done at UFSCar. The visit has two main objectives. The first is to establish a long-term collaboration with Dr. Crone-Todd on the theme of "Stimulus equivalence, meaning and complexity". This theme is particularly relevant to the challenges facing INCT/ECCE researchers, since the purpose of the Institute is to increase the understanding of complex symbolic repertoires and to develop teaching programs to promote the acquisition of such repertoires. To achieve this goal, Dr. Crone-Todd will hold meetings with INCT/ECCE researchers. We expect these meetings will contribute to ongoing research at INCT/ECCE, particularly in terms of advancing data analysis, theoretical formulations, as well as in achieving methodological refinement. The visitor will also meet with several students that conduct research at LECH, many of them supported by FAPESP scholarships. Dr. Crone-Todd will also teach a graduate seminar on the topic of Stimulus Equivalence, Meaning and Complexity, and will give a talk for a general audience. (AU)
