Abstract

This project will explore attempts to moralize electoral processes in Brazil from a long-term historical perspective. We will carefully identify the main perceived failings of Brazilian Representative Government during its key historical phases: the First Republic, the Third Republic, and the Fourth Republic). Our objective is to discuss and provide explanations for the rain electoral reforms that took place during this long period. We will discuss the projects put forth by different political groups in order to remedy these perceived failings. (AU)
