Effects of Deep water running in body composition, functional capacity and quality of life in pre-obese and obese adults: randomized clinical trial

Abstract

The Deep Water Running is an exercise modality that consists in the simulation of land running motion, but performed in deep pools, with the individual upright with the aid of floats and weights that prevent counted the foot with the pool floor. This training method can help to reduce the percentage of fat, improves functional capacity and quality of life in obese adults. The main objective of the study is to investigate the influence of Deep Water Running program in interval training system in body composition, functional capacity and quality of life in pre-obese and obese adults. This is a controlled clinical trial of two arms in parallel with randomization block. After randomization, the volunteers will be divided into two groups: experimental group (EG) and control group (CG). Participate in the study, volunteers of both sexes pre-obese or obese adults. The evaluation will consist of personal data, research in lifestyle and physical activity, history, bioelectrical impedance, six-minute walk test, muscle strength tests and a questionnaire about quality of life. The program will have 12 weeks and consist of water exercises based on interval training system with water temperature maintained at 32 C. After the intervention program, it is expected to occur reduction in the percentage of body fat, increased functional capacity and improved quality of life at EG. (AU)
