Abstract

We aim at studying the dynamical properties of quantum spin chains with deterministic aperiodic couplings. We will employ real-space renormalization-group techniques as well as exact-diagonalization computational methods to investigate systems such as the spin-\frac{1}{2}XXZ chain and the quantum Ising chain, focusing on analyzing the dynamical response to a quantum quench, in order to better understand the changes induced in the ground-state structure and the dynamics of elementary excitations by the combination of quantum fluctuations and translation-symmetry breaking. We will be especially interested in the effects of such combination on the so-called dynamical phase transitions, as well as on many-body localization phenomena. (AU)
