Abstract

The visiting researcher Prof. Dr. Wolfram will participate in the following two research projects, contributing with reflections, criticisms and suggestions for improvement in both theoretical and methodological aspects. 1 - Research project: Relational citation analysis for the understanding of a domain: Bibliographic coupling and Cocitation. Researcher: Maria Cláudia Cabrini Grácio. Abstract: Relational citation analysis is performed mainly by bibliographic coupling and cocitation methods. They allow to know the structural relations of theoretical-methodological connectivity, proximity, neighborhood, association and established dialogue between documents and researchers and have been used individually for the understanding of scientific communication and the intellectual structure of scientific domains. In this context, this research aims to analyze the contributions of the Author Cocitation Analysis and the Author Bibliographic Coupling Analysis for the understanding of the communication and intellectual structure of Information Science in Brazil. It also aims to compare the contribution of these methods to the understanding of a domain, evidencing its differences, similarities and characteristics of the domain represented by both. The corpus of the research will be composed by the group of Brazilian researchers in Information Science, with a more significant presence in mainstream science. It will be analyzed and compared the proximity evidenced between the networks of cocitation and bibliographic coupling relationships between the authors that compose the research corpus. It is hoped to contribute to the development of Brazilian theoretical and methodological studies regarding these methods, in the search for the development of adequate procedures for the context of Brazilian science, providing a better visualization of the intellectual structure of the scientific domain. It also seeks to contribute to the visualization of the scientific structure of Information Science in Brazil, from two perspectives of the relational citation analysis. The follow doctoral students of the Post-Graduate Program in Information Science of UNESP/Marília (PPGCI/UNESP), guided by Dr. Maria Claudia C. Grácio, deal with themes that are close to above project: Renata C. Gutierres Castanha (CNPq fellowship, thematic: Brazilian postgraduate programs); Carla Mara Hilário (CAPES Fellow, theme: co-authoring in contemporary research); Deise Deolindo Silva (theme: index h), Cátia Cândida Almeida (theme: Impact Factor).2 - Research project: Impact, Visibility and Insertion of the Latin American scientific production in Information Metric Studies in the world science. Researcher: Ely F. Tannuri de Oliveira. Abstract: The research project aims to identify and analyze the scientific production of Latin American researchers dealing with the topic Information Metric Studies, disseminated in international databases. It also aims to evaluate the international impact of this scientific production and the geographic reach of this impact. The data will be retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science. For the impact evaluation of scientific production, the citation analysis, by means of the citer analysis procedure, will be used to identify and analyze the characteristics of the citing community. The follow PPGCI's doctoral students, guided by Prof. Dr. Ely Tannuri deal with themes that are close to this second project: Lidyane Lima (Thematic: Bibliographic Linking); Marcos Moraes (Thematic: Interdisciplinary in Information Science).
