Abstract

In the city of Embu das Artes - SP, canine visceral leishmaniasis was detected in the year 2003. In the entomological surveys conducted up to 2015, the Lutzomyia longipalpis vector was not found; however, other phlebotomine species were collected. The objective of this study was to verify the presence of Leishmania spp in sandflies, and the abundance and distribution, according to the month of collection, of the specimens present in the city of Embu das Artes - SP. CDC traps will be used to collect adult specimens of sand flies. Females will be dissected; the thorax will be used to verify natural infection by Polymerase Chain Reaction - PCR; the abdomen and the head of the female will be used for specific identification of the specimen. Males will also be identified. The population abundance of the sandfly species present in Embu das Artes will be verified and the distribution of these species according to the month of collection.
