Abstract

The proposed project consists in the development of a lateral pointing system for the frontal mirror of an optical imager developed by INPE. The physical solution is based on two modules, being one mechanical, composed of a lateral pointing mechanism combined with a stepper motor and a precision angular encoder, and one electronic control module, responsible for the activation and control of the motor and the management of other system functionalities. Given the proposed system will be used primarily to space applications; the development will follow ECSS standards and procedures. The scope of the project is to verify the feasibility of the proposed solution, which is equivalent to the scope of a project phase A, in accordance with ECSS, for a space equipment. In this context, by the end of the project, there will be a functional system prototype, alongside with a batch of technical documentation related to the proposed technical solution description and to the results obtained in functional tests. Since the development will be conducted according to ECSS specifications, an extra documentation batch will be released at the end of the project, regarding project compliance with ECSS standards, in order to assure the feasibility of the project continuation in the next development phase. In this project, all Magnaghi Friuli acquired knowledge in the development and manufacturing of critical electromechanical systems for aeronautical applications will be employed. (AU)
