Abstract

This project was initially submitted to FAPESP as "Thematic" (2015/06767-7) and now it was converted into "Public Policies" by recommendation of the Coordinations. It is proposed to finance the already consolidated Collaborating Centre for Animal Health of the MAPA (Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply), hosted in the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health of the FMVZ-USP, to develop applied research in collaboration with the Department of Animal Health of the MAPA, detailed in three modules of this document. The first one is a project already underway, that aim to investigate the status of brucellosis and tuberculosis in all 27 Brazilian Federation Units (UF), generating high quality epidemiological information to support the choice of strategies and management of processes by the UF and Union. The second module consists of two projects focused at designing a surveillance system model for bovine tuberculosis in Brazil and develop original methodology to reveal the herds that are not reached by it. The third one aims to develop a model to quantify the risk of human exposure to M. bovis through intake of dairy products. In conclusion, the project intend to generate a substantial amount of scientific information to support decision- making process within the PNCEBT and the subsequent implementation of public policies.
