Quality control of Glulam elements based on the revision project of ABNT NBR 7190:1997

Abstract

Glulam presents itself as a promising alternative in the Brazilian construction market. Glulam results in a material with better mechanical properties, it adapts to a variety of shapes, presenting even fewer defects own compared to large pieces of traditional wood. In addition, the glulam industries are seeking alternatives that improve the quality of their products, through the correct choice of wood species used in the composition of the structural element, type of adhesive, as well as by monitoring the quality of the material manufacturing process. This study proposes an evaluation of the delamination and the resistance of the glue line in glulam, according to the revision project of the Brazilian wood standard ABNT NBR 7190. Thus, the proposals of ABNT NBR PN 02: 126.10 -001-3 and ABNT NBR ISO PN 02: 126.10-001-5 for external environments are used. Reforestation woods (pine and/or eucalyptus) and structural adhesives (polyurethane and/or phenolic) will be considered in this research. Devices for conducting the delamination and resistance of glue line tests (autoclave and glue line resistance testing device) will be made throughout the development of the design. With this study, it is intended to contribute to the definition of methods for evaluating the quality of GLULAM, as well as to propose recommendations for national standardization on the subject, so that these can be incorporated into ABNT NBR 7190, which is currently in the process of review. It is also to implant the theme "GLULAM" as one of the lines of research of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering of UNESP / Itapeva. (AU)
