Abstract

Despite the large number of eucalypts species, only a few are used in commercial plantations around world, and there is an information lack of the species adaptability, mainly to hybrid materials. Brazil already has extremely productive genotypes of pure or hybrids of Eucalyptus grandis and E. urophylla, however could occurs productivity breaks with the increasingly occurrence of stresses. An option to deal with the stresses is the introgression of tolerance characteristics, which can be obtained with new hybrid combinations. The objective of the work is to obtain hybrids of several species of eucalypts, using E. grandis and E. urophylla as mother trees. To obtain these hybrids, were selected tree mothers of advanced breeding generation of the two main species in Brazil (E. grandis and E. urophylla). For both species, were selected individuals of stable and productive progenies across different climatic conditions. The mother trees will be pollinated by several species from different sections of Symphyomyrtus subgenus. This should generate different stress tolerances, since each section has specific characteristics. Six trees will be selected in each species population to compose pollen mix of each species. In the initial phase of the project, the goal is to get seeds and ensure that they really are hybrids. Which will be performed by molecular marker analyses. In our study will be used the SNPs due to the feasibility in using a large number of marks, being necessary to do an initial screening with the diverse species that will be worked. In a complementary phase will be evaluated the behavior in diverse environmental conditions for selection of clones. (AU)
