Abstract

Genetic improvement has contributed to increase forest productivity. The applications of quantitative and molecular genetic techniques have allowed the selection of superior trees for fast growing characteristics, good stem shape, appropriate physical and mechanical properties and with good adaptability in different environments. The objective of the work is to know the genetic variation in a second generation progeny test and proceed to the early selection of superior genotypes of Eucalyptus urophylla. For this, a seed orchard will be used for open pollination seedlings (PSM-TP-EU, N = 298 individuals) and a second generation progeny test (TP2G-TP-EU, n = 721 individuals), installed at Fazenda de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão, da Faculdade de Engenharia de Ilha Solteira, em Selvíria-MS. All individuals from PSM-TP-EU and TP2G-TP-EU were genotyped with 12 microsatellite markers, in accordance with the execution of the Fapesp Project 2014/03407-7. Quantitative characters will be measured on TP2G-TP-EU. The analyzes for estimates of genetic parameters will be performed using the REML/BLUP procedure. With this, the aim is to carry out the early selection of superior genotypes, that present good performance and that are adapted to the conditions in the region of Bolsão sul-Mato Grosso, a world pulp producer pole and to indicate parents, for conducting intraspecific crossings in a seed orchard by seedlings.
