Abstract

The forest improvement has contributed to the success of the Brazilian forest sector. The use of microsatellite markers (SSR) has been an auxiliary tool for classical breeding, allowing to explore information that contribute for most appropriate selection strategies. The objective of this study is to investigate the genetic diversity, mating system and parentage in progenies of Eucalyptus urophylla, which compose two seedling seed orchards (SSO), using ten microsatellite loci. For this, will be genotyped 367 seed trees that are located in Selvíria-MS, in Fazenda de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão (FEPE), of the Faculdade de Engenharia de Ilha Solteira (FEIS/UNESP), being 76 genotypes (PSM-TPR-EU) and 291 genotypes (PSM-TP-EU). Will be evaluated in the PSM: the total height, diameter at breast height and basic wood density (obtained by non-destructive methods). In 22 seed trees of PSM-TPR-EU, will be collected seeds for the formation of seedlings (25 plants per progeny, totaling 550 individuals). After genotyping of this material, the seedlings will be used to compose a progenies trial of the second generation. After one year in the progenies trial, will be evaluated the total height of plants and diameter at 30 cm soil. The analysis will be obtained based on SSR markers and quantitative traits, with the aid of statistical tools that allow the accurate estimation of genetic parameters. Thus, we expect adequate methodologies for evaluating a open-pollinated progenies trial like an orchard of controlled pollination and advance in the improvement program of E. urophylla for selection of superior genotypes.
