Abstract

The genus Arcobacter has five species and belongs to Campylobacteriaceae family. The species A.butzleri, A.cryaerophilus and A. skirrowii are related to human and domestic animal infections. During years these agents have been consider as belonging to Campylobacter genus and their isolation was reduced by the differentiated needs to “in vitro” grown. The isolation of Arcobacter spp. has been related in products of animal origin, especially in poultry. The goal of this study is search the agent in swine carcass, feces and pork obtained in slaughterhouses and butcheries. The species will be characterized and the strains will be genotyped through pulsed field electrophoresis. The generated data will give important information about the role of pigs as infection source of Arcobacter spp for humans.
