Abstract

We propose a general study on the characteristics of the elastichadron scattering at high energies (above 10 GeV in the cms), specially in the impact parameter picture. For the elasticproton-proton scattering the goals are: 1) empirical determinationof the scattering amplitude in the impact parameter space (profile function) through model independent parametrization of thedifferential cross section data; 2) determination of the correspondingeikonal and inelastic overlap functions in terms of the the energyand impact parameter; 3) determination of the eikonal in themomentum transfer space; 4) tests on analytical parametrizations ofthe free parameters so as to obtain a predictive formalism;5) study on the applicability of the results in the inelasticchannel through the Miettien-Pumplin model and theBeggio-Menon-Valin approach; 6) study on the formal aspects of theimpact parameter picture; 7) detailed discussion on the statisticalquality of the data reduction and physical interpretation ofthe empirical results, compared with predictions from phenomenologicalmodels.
