Abstract

Microcystins are cyclic heptapeptides that show hepatotoxic activity. Previous experiments have demonstrated the viability to produce immunoassays to detect these toxins in environmental samples. However, most of these immunoassays utilize polyclonal antibodies and, for this reason, are not very effective since cross reaction and false positive results can happen. It is known that samples collected at Billings and Guarapiranga Reservoirs (São Paulo city) presented microcystin variants such as [Asp3]-MC-LR, MC-LR, MC-RR e MC-YR.Our aim is to develop an immunoassay kit with monoclonal antibodies in order to detect MC-LR and other microcystin variants. Prof. Dr. Adelaide Vaz (FCF-FBC/USP) fully cooperates with this project. This project is supported by FAPESP (03/06443-0). (AU)
