Abstract

Our purpose is to study the concept of artistic subjectivity that shows up on the first writings of the poet and thinker J.W. Goethe. To achieve this target we will start from a context of transformations in respect to the thinking on art, i.e. the eighteenth century. Thus, our research will not deal with a detailed description about the art in the preceding century, the seventeenth, whose principles the goethean thought disagrees with, but the knowledge of its directives will be implicit for a satisfactory exposition of our aim. Our research intends to take into account three main aspects in the analysis of the goethean theme of the artistic subjectivity: the first one is going to be its delimitation by an investigation into its most important traces and aspects; the second one is going to analyse some works dating from Goethe's youth, having as well the purpose of demonstrating the existence of elements composing the concept of artistic subjectivity; and the third one is going to try to contextualise these first works by Goethe apart from analysing, through Goethe's writings on art, how the concept of subjectivity develops during his thought and works.
