Abstract

Educational software can provide benefits for teachers and students, like content organization, automatic checking of exercises, learning customization and interactivity. In spite of these benefits, developing high quality educational software is complex and expensive. This is explained by aspects of multidisciplinary teams that are responsible for their design and maintenance facing fast changing classroom demands. This project is interested in a family of educational software called Interactive Learning Modules (iLM) which main goal is to enhance teaching and learning processes by offering features like content interactivity, automatic checking and immediate feedback. Currently, iMA developers face problems during design and maintenance. To solve some of these problems, this project proposes the use of Software Product Line (SPL) technique to improve and ease the development and maintenance of iLM systems. The proposed SPL consists of systematic methods for coding and an application framework, which provides a standard architecture and common and optional features for creating iLM. To verify this project's contribution, two case studies are foreseen: using the framework provided for refactoring two existing iLM: iComb and iGeom. (AU)
