Abstract

Discussions on the possible relationship between music and identity have been solidified, both in the context of Cultural Studies, and also in ethnomusicological studies. Taking into account these theoretical contributions, this research project aims to study two groups of popular culture based in the city of Campinas, starting from de decade of 80, when the currently older group was founded. Although the proposals and the repertoire of these groups are distinct from each other, they preserve a black / rural / slave matrix on their musical legacy to which the members show great interest, leading them to processes of choice, maintenance and dissemination of this material. The objective of this project is to propose the research of social and cultural relations promoted by these processes, through ethnomusicology and Cultural Studies. (AU)
