Abstract The objective of this project is to obtain self-potential data to evaluate its association with biogeochemical activities taking place in old landfill and oil disposal sites. Field measurements of the Self-Potential (SP) signal will be interpreted by using inversion methods intending to map its causative current sources. To interpret SP measurements with this inversion technique, resistivity measurements will be achieved to identify the background geoelectrical model in both sites. The values of the current source will be used to quantify the biogeochemical activity associated with the site contamination. SP and resistivity measurements will be achieved by using equipments already available at the IAG/USP. Tests sites are located at outskirts of the city of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo state, Brazil. As a result, this project will contribute to test a new strategy of acquisition and SP data interpretation applied to environmental problems. | |
