Abstract

Galaxies in Hickson compact groups are objects in the local universe which are usually in interaction, and whose kinematics (due to the observed peculiarities) can only be well described and understood through the study of 2-D velocity fields (IFU or Fabry Perot). This thesis work plans a study of velocity fields of 100 galaxies in compact groups, with the goal of comparing the internal kinematics of these galaxies with those of objects in less dense environments. The data have been already obtained and the majority of it is already reduced. The thesis will also include a study of simulated velocity fields, for galaxies with median redshifts (z 0.5), through the convolution of datacubes of observed data (at z=0), with the apropriate seeing and pixel size. This study will be very important for understanding the limitations of the kinematic studies of galaxies at z=0.5 and particularly important in the determination of the Tully Fisher relation for galaxies at median redshifts.
