Abstract

The most used surgical techniques in advancement jaw procedures is the sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Their studies have been started on 40th decade and it has been changed thru the years. Osteotomies fixation realized to correct facial deformities started by using wire and maxillomandibular fixation. Because of the development in the technique and materials on oral and maxillofacial surgery an internal rigid fixation was created. This technique is more resistance of masticatories forces promoving an increase in the stability after surgical and making needless the using of maxillomandibular fixation. In 70th decade the use of monocortical, bicortical screws, fixation plates and "lag screw" were started. Locking screw/plate titanium mocortical system offers more mechanical resistance. The stability to osteotomized pieces at orthognatic surgery is better than that promoved by others internal rigid fixation materials. However, there are just few studies about locking system on oral and maxillofacial surgery. The purpose of this study is make photoelastic and biomechanical analysis of internal rigid fixations, such as standart plates and locking screw/plate system. The way of this study is define the regions with more concentrated tension force when occlusal forces were applied. These study is a part of others similar studies that are be developing at oral and maxillofacial surgery area of Piracicaba Dental School of Unicamp.
