Abstract

The research will analyze as the movie-theaters - one of the most important leisure equipments in the city of São Paulo - influence and determine the production and reproduction of the urban space, through the articulation that they present starting from geographical nets, and of the construction of territories. At the present time of São Paulo, mainly after the decade of 1990, it is well-known an evident segmentation among two types of different movies: Multiplex´s, located in shopping center-centers, and the art movie-theaters, based commonly in public road. Such movies undertake different forms of production of the space, in the measure in that possess disparate commercial performances, and compete for public's confluence equally different, capable to accomplish different forms of space appropriation. The leisure, at the present time, no more it can be seen as a factor of smaller social relevance. The preferences of entertainment and culture of significant portion of the population are translated in social actions that influence the production of the space and his appropriation decisively, especially in the metropolises. Like this, the research problem that guides the construction of the object questions why, that it forms and with which resulted the movies are organized starting from material nets, and they make possible the construction, together with his public visitor, in ways of appropriation of the space that engender territories. The research will be elaborated starting from bibliographical rising and of field studies, orientated by the theoretical-methodological definition, that will lean over, among other themes, about territory, perception and space appropriation, net, production of the urban space, leisure, movies and mass culture.
