Abstract

From the case of the Indian's author Salman Rushdie, the present project aims to treat the ethic of the religious order in question and its relation with the individual freedom system in the modern society. Considering the repercussion of the novel "The Satanic Verses" and the author's conviction by the Iranian government, evidencing some values conflicts, the relationship between Islam and Human Rights will be analyzed. Due the urgency in establishing pacific relations between different societies, it's necessary to treat this relation in order to discover if the conductions recommended by the Islam finds correspondences with the Human Rights constitutive principles in what refers to human dignity and tolerance. This work will approach some problematic of the multicultural scenario, being based in a theoretical reflexion about religion and reflexive modernity, once religion orients actions and social relations, constituting ethics socially valued that can be opposed to the principles of modernity. Therefore, we will use a sociological perspective based on Weber's methodology, using the bibliography that treats the theoretical discussion referred, and we will pay attention to the fact's international repercussion. With this we intend analyze in what measure the proposals of Human Rights are effective to the construction of an intercultural dialogue language, or even to surpass certain practices of intolerance based on religious fundamentalism. Then we will discuss the validity of this system as an instrument of the social relations and, most of all, the international ones. (AU)
