Abstract

Introduction: The alveolar bone graft is a surgery performed in patients with cleft pre-foramen and transformer incisor, to fill the defect with congenital marrow bone, taken from the iliac crest, and restore the alveolar ridge. The swelling caused for surgery, causes local pain, restrictions of movement and aesthetic unwanted effects, slowing the process of recovery and hospital discharge the patient. The manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is to drain the excess fluid accumulated in the interstitial spaces, accelerating the reduction of facial swelling. Through specific techniques, is one of the resources used in post-operative by sector of the Physiotherapy of the Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais (HRAC). Goals: Develop a standardized protocol of MLD in the postoperative of alveolar bone graft unilateral, to determine the effectiveness of these maneuvers standardized to reduce swelling, and compare the results of the group treated by this new proposed protocol with the group treated by the procedures current at HRAC. Methodology: After being approved by The Ethical Research Committee - HRAC, this study will involve 60 patients, who submitted surgery of alveolar bone graft unilateral, between 11 and 16 years old, who will sign consent to participate in this study. They will be divided into two groups, 30 treated by the current protocol and 30 with the new standardized protocol of MLD. The patients will be evaluate through of measurements of 6 points, demarcated on the face, result in 4 distances and they will be photographed. We will analyze statistically the reduction of facial swelling, the effectiveness of maneuvers and the evolution of the patients in both groups. A standardized protocol, with procedures to improve the drainage of lymph and leverage to reduce the swelling, can accelerate the results and anticipate the recovery of patients in postoperative.
