The pocket machining through the HSM process has been very used in the mold and die industries due to the advantages get by the feed of the spindle in the higher stifness direction of the machine, what enhance the stability of the process. Besides, the use of high speed increase the material removed rate, generating a higher productivity. Although, this can cause also an increase of the vibration of the cutting forces and, therefore, faster deterioration of the cutting tool.The dynamic of this process is different of that observed in the conventional milling due to the continous operation of the cutting edges inside the pocket at the beginning of the machining.In this work it is intended to map the cutting forces during a pocket machining in workpieces of tool steel AISI D2, recomended to mold fabrication, considering the particularities of the hard machining, that besides the higher cutting forces, also have influence on the tool wear.The pockets will be machined with different strategies using a machining center while the cutting force components will be measured through a piezoelectric dinamometer as well as sensors attached to the workpiece. The signals obtained during the process of pocket milling will treated by Fourier transform and will be analized with the material removed rates, checking which is the best strategy for each part of the pocket, as well as which is most indicated cutting tool.
